Verified case summary

Robel Gebremariam, twenty-five, from Bedford, received a sentence of nine years after a jury found him guilty of rape.

Bedfordshire Police said he approached a woman walking alone in Greyfriars during the early hours of the sixth of July twenty twenty-four.

He walked with her, bought alcohol and booked a taxi to the house where he was staying.

Police said he supplied more alcohol there before raping her.

The woman reported what happened shortly afterwards, and the force's specialist rape investigation team opened a case.

Intelligence work and CCTV helped officers identify Gebremariam.

He denied the allegation but was convicted after a four-day trial earlier in twenty twenty-six.

Luton Crown Court imposed nine years in prison plus a one-year extended licence.
